Reál (d. h. königlich, lat. Regalis): 1) bis 1870 span. Silbermünze, 1497 zuerst geprägt, 1718 als R. de plata provincial 5/6 fein = 0,46 Mk. der Talerwährung und als R. de vellon halb so groß, 1772 als R. de plata mejicano zu 2 Realitos 144/9 lötig = 0,55 Mk. und als R. de vellon 13 lötig = 0,218 Mk., 1848 R. 9/10 fein = 0,213 Mk. und zuletzt 810 Taus. fein = 0,189 Mk. Als Rechnungsstufe in jeder spanischen Währung von 1686–1848 = 34 Maravedies: der R. de plata antiguo (zu 16 Cuartos) = 16/17 R. de plata nuevo (abgekürzt rpta.) der Provinzialwährung und = 115/17 sogen. Kupferreals oder Reales de vellon (abgekürzt rvn.) von Kastilien, welch letztere von 0,21755 Mk. Wert die hauptsächlichste Geldeinheit bildeten; später 1/20 Duro. Ferner ist der R. in spanischen Kolonien und dem ebenfalls spanischen Amerika zum Teil noch = 1/8 Peso. 2) Rechnungsstufe in Portugal bis 1835 = 2 Vintems von 20 Reïs. 3) Edelmetallgewicht in Niederländisch-Ostindien = 27,343 g, entsprechend dem Gewicht des altspanischen Piasters.
