Loveling, Virginie, fläm. Schriftstellerin, geb. 17. Mai 1836 in Nevele (Ostflandern), lebt gegenwärtig in Gent. Mit ihrer Schwester Rosalie (geb. 19. März 1834, gest. 4. Mai 1875) veröffentlichte sie die schlicht-schönen, zartsinnigen »Gedichten« (Groningen 1870), die volkstümlichen und doch psychologisch tiefen »Novellen« (Amsterd. 1874), »Nieuwe Novellen« (Gent 1876) und »Polydooren Theodoor« (das. 1882). Virginie L. allein schrieb, außer vielen Erzählungen für Kinder: »Drie Novellen« (Haarlem 1883), »Het hoofd van't huis« (Gent 1883), »Sophie« (Amsterd. 1885), »Een winter in het Zuiderland« (das. 1889), »Idonia« (Haarlem 1891), »Een dure eed« (Utrecht 1891, 8. Aufl. 1904) und »Mijnheer Connehaye« (Amsterd. 1895), die beiden letzten mit dem belgischen Staatspreis für Literatur gekrönt.
