Rank ist ein Schiff, das sich bei seitlichem Winddruck leicht auf eine Seite neigt und die Gefahr des Kenterns hervorruft. R. sind Schiffe, deren Schwerpunkt zu hoch liegt. R. ist z. B. ein Schiff, das ungenügenden Ballast führt; vgl. Metazentrum.
