Noether

Noether, Max, Mathematiker und Astronom, geb. 24. Sept. 1844 in Mannheim, studierte seit 1865 an der dortigen Sternwarte, in Heidelberg, Gießen und Göttingen, habilitierte sich in Heidelberg als Privatdozent, wurde 1874 außerordentlicher Professor und ging als solcher 1875 nach Erlangen, wo er seit 1888 als Ordinarius wirkt. Er lieferte wichtige Arbeiten über die Theorie der algebraischen Funktionen und der algebraischen Kurven. Sein Referat (mit Brill) im Jahresbericht der Deutschen Mathematikervereinigung »Über die Entwickelung der Theorie der algebraischen Funktionen« (Berl. 1894) gewährt eine fast vollständige Übersicht über dies große Gebiet bis 1893.
