Le Play

Le Play (spr. plǟ), Frédéric, franz. Ingenieur und Nationalökonom, geb. 11. April 1806 in Honfleur, gest. 1882, besuchte die Polytechnische Schule in Paris, wurde daselbst Professor an der Bergwerksschule, später Unterdirektor derselben und 1867 Senator. Bei den Weltausstellungen in Paris 1855 und London 1862 war er als Generalkommissar tätig, bei der Pariser von 1867 leitete er die Organisationsarbeiten. L. schrieb: »Les ouvriers européens« (1855; 2. Aufl. 1877–79, 6 Bde.); »La réforme sociale en France déduite de l'observation comparée des peuples européens« (1864, 2 Bde.; 7. Aufl. 1887, 3 Bde.); »L'organisation du travail« (1870, 5. Aufl. 1888); »L'organisation de la famille« (3. Aufl. 1884); »La constitution de l'Angleterre« (1875, 2 Bde.); »La réforme en Europe et le salut en France« (1877); »La constitution essentielle de l'humanité« (1881, 2. Aufl. 1893) etc. Auszüge aus seinem Briefwechsel enthalten die »Voyagesen Europe, 1829–1854« (1899). Vgl. Auburtin, F. Le Play.
