Metaphrāse

Metaphrāse (griech.), Übertragung, namentlich die wortgetreue Übersetzung eines Gedichts in Prosa. Metaphrast, Verfertiger einer M.; dann nach einem gewissen Simeon Metaphrastes, der im 10. Jahrh. oder später Märtyrer- und Heiligenlegenden bearbeitete, soviel wie Verfasser von Heiligengeschichten. Vgl. Paraphrase.
