Menier

Menier (spr. menjē), Emile Iustin, franz. Industrieller und Volkswirt, geb. 18. Mai 1826 in Paris, gest. 17. Febr. 1881 in Noisiel-sur-Marne, schwang sich durch Fleiß und Tüchtigkeit zum mehrfachen Millionär empor. In seiner Fabrik in Noisiel führte er die Schokoladenfabrikation ein, gründete in St.-Denis eine zweite Fabrik chemischer Produkte, eine weitere Fabrik in London, die große Zuckerfabrik in Roye, die größte französische Kautschukfabrik und eine eigne Kakaokulturkolonie in Nicaragua. Nach dem deutsch-französischen Krieg ward er zum Generalrat des Depart. Seine-et-Marne und 1876 zum Abgeordneten gewählt. Eifriger Republikaner und entschiedener Freihändler, gründete er die beiden Pariser Tagesblätter »Le Bien Public« und »Le Voltaire« sowie die freihändlerische Revue »La Réforme Économique«. M. schrieb: »Des indemnités aux victimes de la guerre avec l'impôt simplifié« (1871); »Les travaux de Paris par l'impôtsur le capital« (1873); »La réforme fiscale« (1873); »Théorie et application de l'impôt sur le capital« (1874); »Économie rurale. Mémoire sur la pulvérisation des engrais« (1875); »L'avenir économique« (1875–79, 2 Bde.) u. a. Auch gab er einen »Atlas de la production de la richesse« (1878, 20 Tafeln) heraus.
