Maryborough (spr. mǟrĭbörō), 1) Hauptstadt der irischen Queen's County, an einem Nebenfluß des Barrow, mit Gerichtshof, Gefängnis, Irrenhaus, Schloßruine und (1891) 2809 Einw. M. ist nach der Königin Marie, der Begründerin der Queen's County, benannt. – 2) Stadt in dem britisch-austral. Staat Queensland, an dem bis hierher für Seedampfer fahrbaren Mary-Fluß, 40 km von seiner Mündung, mit bedeutenden Eisengießereien, Zuckermühlen, Holzschneidewerken, Dugong-, Schildkröten- und Austernfischerei, Schiffbau und (1901) 10,159 Einw., darunter viele Deutsche und Dänen. Die Stadt ist der Hafen für die fruchtbare Umgebung sowie für die Gympie-, Mount Shamrock- und Eidsvold-Goldfelder und die Burrum-Kohlengrube. – 3) Stadt in dem britisch-austral. Staat Victoria, Bahnknotenpunkt, mit Gewerbeschule, großen Eisenbahnwerkstätten und (1901) 5633 Einw. In der Nähe ergiebige Goldgruben.
