Manoël do Nascimento

Manoël do Nascimento, Francisco, bekannter unter dem arkadischen Namen Filinto Elysio, namhafter portug. Lyriker, geb. 21. Dez. 1734 in Lissabon, gest. 25. Febr. 1819 in Paris, widmete sich anfangs der Musik, wandte sich aber bald der Poesie und Literatur zu. Der Kirchenlehre zuwiderlaufender Grundsätze halber, die sich in seinen Werken finden sollten, 1778 von der Inquisition vor ihre Schranken gefordert, entfloh M., der Laienpriester war, nach Holland und wandte sich später nach Paris. Unter seinen Dichtungen werden vornehmlich seine Oden und seine Nachahmungen von Lafontaines Fabeln geschätzt. Auch übersetzte er Wielands »Oberon« und Chateaubriands »Martyrs«. Seine »Obras completas« erschienen in 2. Auflage Paris 1817–19 in 11 Bänden (neuere Aufl., Lissab. 1836–40). Vgl. I. M. Pereira da Silva, Filinto Elysio e a sua epoca (Rio de Janeiro 1891).
