Maitland (spr. mĕtlǟnd), Doppelstadt (East- und West-M.) in dem britisch-austral. Staat Neusüdwales, an der Bahn Newcastle-Tamworth und dem von hier ab schiffbaren Hunter, 30 km von dessen Mündung, Sitz eines katholischen Bischofs, hat zahlreiche Schulen, Stiefel- und Tabakfabriken, Bootbau, große Warenhäuser und (1901) 10,085 Einw. In der Nähe Wein- und Orangenpflanzungen und Gruben von Kohle und Brandschiefer.
