Licāta

Licāta, Stadt in der ital. Provinz Girgenti (Sizilien), an der Mündung des Salso in das Mittelländische Meer und an den Eisenbahnlinien Canicatti-L. und L.-Siracusa gelegen, hat ein altes Karmeliterkloster (14.–16. Jahrh.), eine gotische Kirche, eine Technische Schule, einen Hafen, in den 1902: 668 Schiffe von 163,569 Ton. einliefen, bedeutende Ausfuhr von Schwefel, gesalzenen Fischen etc., ist Sitz eines deutschen Vizekonsuls und hat (1901) 22,931 Einw. – L. ist das alte Phintias und liegt am Fuße des Monte Sant' Angelo, des Eknomos (s. d.) der Alten.
