Landīno

Landīno, Cristoforo, ital. Gelehrter, geb. 1424 in Florenz, gest. 1504 in Pratovecchio, widmete sich den klassischen Studien, übernahm 1458 die Professur der Poesie und Beredsamkeit in Florenz, wo er zugleich Lehrer von Lorenzo und Giuliano de' Medici wurde, ward Sekretär der parte guelfa und darauf Kanzler der Signoria. 1497 zog er sich vom öffentlichen Leben zurück. Die Hauptwerke Landinos sind seine »Disputationes Camaldulenses« (Florenz gegen 1480, Straßb. 1508, Par. 1511) und sein weitschweifiger Kommentar zu Dantes »Divina Commedia« (Flor. 1481; 27. Aufl., Vened. 1596), der die Dante-Studien in Italien wesentlich förderte, wenngleich er den ältern Kommentaren gegenüber kaum einen Fortschritt bedeutet und die Allegorisierung sogar zu weit treibt. Außerdem hinterließ L. drei Dialoge »De anima«, Kommentare zu Horaz und Vergil, lateinische Elegien, eine Übersetzung von Plinius' »Naturgeschichte« u.a. Vgl.
