Lactucarĭum

Lactucarĭum (Giftlattichsaft), ein aus Lactuca sativa und L. virosa gewonnenes Arzneimittel. L. virosa (der Giftlattich) liefert besonders zur Blütezeit bei Verwundung einen weißen Milchsaft, der zu dunkel gelbbraunen, innen weißen, wachsglänzenden Klümpchen erhärtet. Dies in Zell an der Mosel bereitete L. germanicum riecht eigentümlich narkotisch, schmeckt äußerst bitter, erweicht in der Wärme, ist in keinem Lösungsmittel völlig löslich, enthält kristallisierbares indifferentes Lactucerin (Lactucon) C15H24O, einen kristallisierbaren Bitterstoff, Lactucin C11 H14C4, in geringerer Menge amorphes bitteres Lactucopikrin C44H32O21, außerdem Lactucasäure und die gewöhnlichen Pflanzenbestandteile. Das L. anglicum bildet dunklere, sprödere, sonst dem deutschen Produkt gleiche Klumpen und wird bei Edinburg aus Lactuca sativa und L. virosa gewonnen. Österreichisches L., dem deutschen ähnlich, wird bei Waidhofen an der Thaya dargestellt. Auch das aus Lactuca altissima bei Clermond-Ferrand gewonnene L. ist dem deutschen ähnlich, während ein andres, L. gallicum (Thridax), aus Lactuca sativa durch Auspressen der ganzen Pflanze, Abscheiden des Eiweißes und Verdampfen des Saftes gewonnen, ein dunkelbraunes hygroskopisches Extrakt bildet und die wirksamen Bestandteile in viel geringerer Menge enthält. Als Arzneimittel kam das L. in Deutschland erst im 18. Jahrh. in allgemeine Anwendung. Früher fast dem Opium an Wert gleichgestellt und in ähnlichen Fällen wie dieses angewendet, ist es heute fast vergessen.
