Jotham, 1) Sohn des Richters Gideon, entging nach Richt. 9 dem Blutbade, das sein Halbbruder Abimelech den übrigen Gideonssöhnen bereitet hatte. Er trat dem Brudermörder, den man in Sichem zum Könige gewählt hatte, in einer am Berge Gerisim gehaltenen Rede, der berühmt gewordenen Parabel »Von den Bäumen, die da gingen, einen König über sich zu salben«, entgegen.

2) König von Juda (758–742, nach andrer Chronologie 750–734 v. Chr.), Sohn und Nachfolger Usias, regierte in theokratischem Sinne, sorgte für die äußere Sicherheit des Landes durch Anlegung fester Plätze sowie durch ein kriegstüchtiges Heer und überwand die Ammoniter. In die Regierungszeit Jothams fällt die Tätigkeit des Jesaias (s. d.).
