Joigny

Joigny (spr. schŭanji), Arrondissementshauptstadt im franz. Depart. Yonne, an der Yonne und der Lyoner Eisenbahn, hat drei Kirchen aus der Renaissancezeit, Reste eines alten Schlosses, ein Handelsgericht, ein Collège, eine Bibliothek, ein Theater, Weinbau, Fabrikation von Zement, Schuhwerk, Korbwaren, Ziegeleien, ansehnlichen Handel und (1901) 6045 Einw. – J. war im Mittelalter befestigt und hielt mehrere Belagerungen, so 1429, erfolgreich gegen die Engländer aus.
