Heliograph

Heliograph (griech.), Instrument zur Herstellung von Sonnenphotographien, im wesentlichen ein astronomisches Fernrohr mit photographischer Camera Es wird entweder als Äquatorial montiert, oder man gibt ihm eine feste, unveränderliche Lage und läßt die Sonnenstrahlen mittels eines Heliostaten (s. d.) hineinfallen; im Brennpunkte wird das Sonnenbild direkt aufgenommen oder ein Linfensystem eingeschaltet, das ein vergrößertes Sonnenbild hervorbringt. – H. heißt auch ein 1875 von Mance modifiziertes Gaußsches Heliotrop, das zu telegraphischen Zwecken namentlich beim Militär benutzt wird, indem man mit Hilfe eines kleinen, drehbaren Spiegels Sonnenblitze von längerer oder kürzerer Dauer auf weite Entfernungen entsendet und durch Kombination der längern und kürzern Blitze, ähnlich wie beim Morse-Apparat, ein Alphabet bildet. Bei sehr klarem Wetter kann der H. auf 100 km Entfernung arbeiten.
