Harper's Ferry, Städtchen im nordamerikan. Staat Westvirginia, Grafschaft Jefferson, am Zusammenfluß des Shenandoah und Potomac malerisch gelegen, im Bürgerkriege viel umkämpfte, wichtige strategische Position, mit (1900) 896 Einw. Das hier früher bestandene Arsenal und die Waffenfabrik wurden bei Annäherung der Konföderierten 14. Mai 1861 in Asche gelegt. Auch ist H. bekannt geworden durch den Handstreich John Browns 1859 (s. Brown 5).
