Gyllenstierna

Gyllenstierna, Johan, Graf, schwed. Staatsmann, geb. 18. Febr. 1635 bei Stockholm, gest. 10. Juni 1680 in Landskrona, trat, obwohl Sprößling eines alten Adelsgeschlechts, 1664 und 1668 als Führer der Reichstagsopposition für eine Beschränkung der hochadligen Vorrechte und Privilegien ein, bekämpfte, seit 1668 Reichsrat, die franzosenfreundliche Politik des Reichskanzlers M. G. de la Gardie (s. d.) und wurde nach dessen Sturz (1676) Karls XI. allmächtiger Minister. Sein Bestreben, die auswärtige Politik Dänemarks an die Schwedens zu binden, siegte 1679 beim Friedenskongreß zu Lund; auch brachte er 1680 eine skandinavische Münzkonvention zustande. 1674 in den Grafenstand erhoben, starb er kurz nach seiner Ernennung zum Generalgouverneur von Schonen.
