Digitalīn C35H56O14 (?), nach Kiliani ein amorphes Glykosid in Digitalis purpurea, wird durch Salzsäure gespalten in Digitaligenin C23H32O3, Traubenzucker C6H12O6 und Digitalose C7H14O5. Ein andres Glykosid, das Digitoxin C34H54O11, schmilzt bei 145° und wird durch Salzsäure in Digitoxose C6H12O4 und Digitoxigenin C22H32O4 gespalten. Der Hauptbestandteil der aus der Pflanze abgeschiedenen Glykoside ist das unwirksame kristallisierbare Digitonin, das durch Salzsäure in Digitogenin, Glukose und Galaktose gespalten wird. D. (Kiliani) ist ein unsicheres, nicht sehr wirkungsvolles Präparat, während das farblose, mikrokristallinische, in Alkohol leicht lösliche Digitoxin (Merck) die Digitalis-Blätter gut ersetzt und vor denselben manche Vorzüge besitzt.
