Chelles (spr. schäl'), Flecken im franz. Depart. Seine-et-Marne, Arrond. Meaux, an der Marne und der Ostbahn, mit einer Kirche aus dem 13. Jahrh., Resten einer alten Abtei, einem seit 1870 erbauten Fort der äußern Pariser Befestigungslinie und (1901) 3719 Einw. – C. war merowingische Königsresidenz; Chilperich I. wurde hier 584 ermordet. In der Nähe siegreiches Gefecht des 12. Korps (Sachsen) gegen die Franzosen unter Trochu (21. Dez. 1870).
