Cella (lat.), Kammer, Vorratskammer, Gemach (daher das deutsche Zelle); insbes. der gewöhnlich von oben erleuchtete Hauptteil der Tempel der alten Völker, wo das Götterbild stand, das eigentliche Tempelhaus, vor dem sich die Vorhalle (pronaos) und hinter dem sich oft eine Hinterhalle (opisthodomos) befand; s. Tempel.
