Catlin

Catlin (spr. kättlīn), George, amerikan. Reisender, Maler und Indianerforscher, geb. 26. Juli 1796 in Wilkesbarre (Pennsylvanien), gest. 23. Er veröffentlichte: »Letters and notes on the manners, customs and conditions ofthe North American Indians« (mit 300 Stahlstichen, New York 1841, 2 Bde.; neue Ausg. 1876; deutsch von Berghaus u. d. T.: »Die Indianer Nordamerikas etc.«, Brüssel 1848); »The North American Indian hunting portfolio« (25 Tafeln, Lond. 1844); »Life amongst the Indians« (neue Ausg. 1889); »Last rambles in the Rocky Mountains and Andes« (1867, neue Ausg. 1877).
