Volci

Volci (etruskisch Velsu), eine der etrurischen Zwölfstädte, 8 km vom Tyrrhenischen Meere, westlich des Flusses Armenta (heute Fiora) gelegen, in der Geschichte nur genannt aus Anlaß eines 280 v. Chr. von den Römern über V. gefeierten Triumphs. Die Bedeutung und der Reichtum von V. wird durch ihre seit 1828 ausgegrabene Nekropole auf dem noch heute Pian di Voce genannten Felde dargetan, die eine Menge durch Schönheit und Verschiedenartigkeit gleich ausgezeichneter Prachtvasen, Geschmeide, Bronzearbeiten etc. geliefert hat.
