Vatke, Wilhelm, prot. Theolog, geb. 14. März 1806 in Behndorf bei Magdeburg, gest. 19. April 1882 in Berlin, wo er sich 1830 habilitiert hatte und 1837 außerordentlicher Professor wurde; er schrieb unter anderm: »Die Religion des Alten Testaments« (Berl. 1835) und »Die menschliche Freiheit in ihrem Verhältnisse zur Sünde und zur göttlichen Gnade« (das. 1841). Aus seinem Nachlaß wurden von H. Preiß herausgegeben: »Historisch-kritische Einleitung in das Alte Testament« (Bonn 1886) und »Religionsphilosophie« (das. 1888). Vgl. Benecke, Wilhelm V.
