Urethāne

Urethāne (Karbaminsäureester) entstehen bei Einwirkung von Ammoniak auf Kohlensäureester, beim Einleiten von Cyanchlorid in Alkohol und durch direkte Vereinigung von Cyansäure mit Alkoholen. Die U. kristallisieren, sind löslich in Wasser, Alkohol und Äther, flüchtig, werden durch Alkalien in Kohlensäure, Ammoniak und Alkohole zerlegt und bilden beim Erhitzen mit Ammoniak Harnstoff, während beim Erhitzen von Harnstoff mit Alkoholen U. gebildet werden. Äthylurethan (Karbaminsäureäthyläther) NH2.COO.C2H5 bildet farb- und geruchlose Blättchen, schmeckt salpeterähnlich, löst sich leicht in Wasser, schmilzt bei 50°, siedet bei 184°. Man benutzt es als Schlafmittel, in größern Dosen soll es als Gegengift gegen Strychnin, Pikrotoxin, Resorcin wirken Chloralurethan (Uralium, Uralin) entsteht aus Chloral und Äthylurethan, ist kristallinisch, löst sich in Alkohol und Äther, nicht in Wasser, wird durch kochendes Wasser und beim Erhitzen auf 100° in seine Bestandteile zerlegt. Es wirkt als Schlafmittel ebenso sicher wie Chloral, wird aber besser als dieses vertragen. Methylpropylkarbinolurethan ist das Hedonal (s. d.).
