United Irish League

United Irish League (engl., spr. junāīted āīrisch līgh, Vereinigter Irischer Bund), politische Verbindung in Irland, die 1898 zunächst in der Grafschaft Mayo von William O'Brien und Michael Davitt gegründet wurde und sich durch Zweigvereine über die ganze Insel verbreitete. Ihr nächster Zweck war für die Vermehrung des Kleingrundbesitzes durch Aufteilung der großen Weidelandbesitzungen zu wirken; darüber hinaus übte sie durch Presse und Versammlungen namentlich bei den Wahlen von 1900 einen großen politischen Einfluß aus. Sie enthielt sich zwar offener Gewalttaten, suchte aber die Grundbesitzer durch Bedrohungen und Boykottierung einzuschüchtern und rief dadurch in den Jahren 1901 und 1902 zahlreiche Prozesse gegen ihre Mitglieder hervor. Ihr Hauptorgan ist die von O'Brien 1898 gegründete und nach vorübergehender Einstellung im September 1905 wieder ins Leben gerufene Zeitung »Irish People«.
