Thoth

Thoth (Thout), ägyptischer Mondgott, auch Gott der Schrift und Wissenschaft, von den Griechen mit Hermes identifiziert. Seine heiligen Tiere sind der Hundskopfaffe und der Ibis, mit dessen Kopf er auch abgebildet wird; als Gott der Schrift führt er Schreibtafel u. Schreibrohr (s. Abbildung). Weiteres s.
