Schoenocaulon A. Gray (Sabadilla Brandt, Asagraea Lindl.), Gattung der Liliazeen, Zwiebelgewächse mit grasartigen Wurzelblättern, schaftständiger, gedrängter, vielblütiger Ähre und eiförmiger oder länglicher, papierartiger, vielsamiger Kapsel. Fünf Arten in Nord- und Mittelamerika. S. officinale A. Gray (mexikanisches Läusekraut, Cebadilla, Cabadilla), mit 0,5–1,25 m langen Blättern, bis 1 m hohem Blütenschaft und gelben Blüten, wächst am östlichen Abhang der Anden von Mexiko, in Guatemala und Venezuela, wird besonders bei Veracruz kultiviert und liefert die früher arzneilich benutzten Fructus sabadillae (Sabadillsamen). Diese enthalten Fett, Harz, Bitterstoff und Veratrin; sie dienten früher als Läusekörner gegen Ungeziefer etc. und werden jetzt zur Darstellung von Veratrin benutzt. Die Pflanze und deren Gebrauch wurde zuerst von Monarda 1517 beschrieben; die Droge kam 1726 nach Deutschland, die Zwiebel dient in Mexiko als Wurmmittel.
