Schaeberle, John Martin, Astronom, geb. 10. Jan. 1853 in Öschelbronn (Württemberg), kam in jungen Jahren nach Amerika, studierte seit 1872 in Anu Arbor, wurde 1876 Assistent bei Watson, 1878 Assistent an der Sternwarte von Ann Arbor, 1888 Astronom der Lick-Sternwarte und ist seit 1898 Besitzer einer Privatsternwarte in Ann Arbor. Er entdeckte mehrere Kometen und fand 1897 den Begleiter des Prokyon, dessen Existenz man schon lange vermutet hatte. In den Annalen der Lick-Sternwarte veröffentlichte er: »Reports on the observation of the total eclipse of the sun 1. January 1889 and 16. April 1893«, auch schrieb er: »Terrestrial atmosphaeric absorption of the photographic rays of light« (Sacramento 1893) und »Meteors and sunsets 1893–1895« (mit Holden, das. 1895).
