Safed (Saffed), Stadt von 10,100 Einw. im Sandschak Akka des Wilajet Beirut, 838 m hoch, seit Anfang des 16. Jahrh. von polnischen Juden, die es als heilige Stadt betrachten, aufgesucht und Sitz einer berühmten Rabbinerschule. Am 1. Jan. 1837 großes Erdbeben, 5000 Tote.
