Romorantin

Romorantin (spr. -rangtäng), Arrondissementshauptstadt im franz. Depart. Loir-et-Cher, an der Sauldre, Knotenpunkt an der Orléansbahn, hat eine Kirche aus dem 12. Jahrh., ein von Franz I. erbautes Schloß (jetzt Unterpräfektur), ein Handelsgericht, ein Collège, Spargelbau, bedeutende Tuchfabrikation (1500 Arbeiter) sowie von Flanell. Parfümerien etc., Handel und (1901) 7427 (als Gemeinde 8130) Einw. R. war Hauptstadt der Sologne. – Hier erließ der Kanzler L'Hôpital 1560 das berühmte Edikt von R. gegen die Einführung der Inquisition in Frankreich.
