Port Glasgow

Port Glasgow (spr. pōrt glāsgo), Stadt in Renfrewshire (Schottland), am Clyde, 32 km unterhalb Glasgows, wurde 1668 als Vorhafen Glasgows gegründet, hat aber seit der Vertiefung des Clyde sehr an Bedeutung verloren. Zum Hafen gehörten 1903: 25 Seeschiffe von 17,421 Ton. P. hat ein Stadthaus im klassischen Stil, eine Stadthalle, eine von J. Moffat gegründete Bibliothek, große Docks, 7 Schiffswerften (1903 wurden 24 Schiffe von 38,516 Ton. gebaut), Segeltuchfabriken, Maschinenbau und (1901) 16,840 Einwohner.
