Plaid (engl., spr. plëd, Tartan), der lange, deckenartige Überwurf der Bergschotten, aus einem einzigen Stück groben, je nach den Clans auf verschiedene Art gewürfelten oder bunt karierten Tuches bestehend, dient auch zu Bettvorhängen, als Tapeten etc. Danach überhaupt eine dicke, wollene, bunt gemusterte Reisedecke.
