Pithou

Pithou (spr. -tū, lat. Pithöus), Pierre, franz. Rechtsgelehrter und Humanist, geb. 1. Nov. 1539 in Troyes, gest. 1. Nov. 1596 in Nogent-sur-Seine, war eine Zeitlang Generalprokurator von Paris. Er machte sich bekannt durch die Herausgabe der Phädrus (Troyes 1596) aus einer von seinem Bruder François (gest. 1621) aufgefundenen Handschrift, ferner der »Annalium et historiae Francorum scriptores coaetanei XII« (Frankf. 1594) und der »Historiae Francorum scriptores veteres XI« (das. 1596) sowie durch die Schrift »Les libertés del'Eglise gallicane« (Par. 1594; kommentiert von Dupuy, das. 1715, 2 Bde.). Seine »Opera sacra, juridica etc.« gab Labbé heraus (Par. 1609).
