Oftedal, Lars, norweg. Theolog und Politiker, geb. 27. Dez. 1838 in Stavanger, gest. daselbst 2. Mai 1900, war längere Zeit als Missions- und Wanderprediger tätig und wurde 1885 Propst in seiner Geburtsstadt, wo er sich unter anderm durch Gründung der »Bethanienstiftung« (mit philanthropischen und religiösen Anstalten, Buchdruckerei etc.) verdient machte. Im Storthing, dem er 1883–85 und 1889–94 angehörte, leitete er die gemäßigt-liberale Partei der Ostedöler, die den der Bevölkerung Südwestnorwegens eigentümlichen kirchlich-demokratischen Standpunkt vertrat und das Kabinett Joh. Sverdrup (s. d. 1) kräftig unterstützte. Nachdem er Ende 1891 infolge schwerer Sittlichkeitsvergehen sein geistliches Amt hatte niederlegen müssen, trat er nur noch selten in die Öffentlichkeit. Seine vielen Erbauungsschriften haben große Verbreitung gefunden.
