Nyiregyháza (spr. njīr-édj-hāsa), Stadt mit geordnetem Magistrat, Sitz des ungar. Komitats Szabolcs und Knotenpunkt der Bahnlinien nach Debreczin, Szerencz, Csap, Mátészalka und Vásáros-Námény, mit vielen Neubauten (Theater, 2 Kavalleriekasernen, Gerichts- und Gefängnisgebäude, Komitatskrankenhaus), Denkmal des Dichters Bessenyei, Getreide- und Tabakbau, Viehzucht (insbes. Schafe), 3 Dampfmühlen, lebhaftem Handel, Gerichtshof, Finanzdirektion, Tabakeinlösungsamt, Handelsschule, evang. Obergymnasium und (1901) 33,088 meist magyar. (reformierten, römisch- und griechisch-kath.) Einwohnern. 7 km davon das Natronseebad Sóstó (spr. schōschtō).
