Magdala, einstige Bergfestung in Abessinien, 11°22' nördl. Br., 200 km südöstlich von Gondar, auf isoliertem Basaltfelsen, 2750 m ü. M., 1000 m über dem Tal des Beschilo, eines Zuflusses des Blauen Nils. – M. wurde 13. April 1868 von den Engländern unter Sir Robert Napier, der davon das Prädikat »of M« erhielt, im Kriege gegen Theodoros von Abessinien, der sich daraufhin den Tod gab, genommen (vgl. Abessinien, S. 34 f., und Theodor)
