Loches (spr. losch'), Arrondissementshauptstadt im franz. Depart. Indre-et-Loire, am linken Ufer der Indre, Knotenpunkt der Orléansbahn, hat Ruinen eines alten Forts mit mächtigem Turm (12. Jahrh.; s. Tafel »Burgen I«, Fig. 2) und andre Reste von Befestigungswerken, ein ehemals königliches, von Karl VII. erbautes Schloß mit dem Grabmal der Agnes Sorel, eine Kollegiatkirche St.-Ours (12. Jahrh.), ein Stadthaus (16. Jahrh.) und andre Gebäude im Renaissancestil, ein College, eine Lehrerbildungsanstalt, Weinbau, Leinwand- und Tuchfabrikation, Gerberei, Pferdehandel und (1961) 3923 (als Gemeinde 5161) Einw. Das an der Indre, L. gegenüberliegende Beaulieu hat eine ehemalige Abteikirche aus dem 11. Jahrh. mit schönem romanischen Glockenturm und (1901) 1487 Einw.
