Little Rock, Hauptstadt des nordamerikan. Staates Arkansas und der Grafschaft Pulaski, auf 15 m hoher Uferwand am schiffbaren Arkansas, bedeutender Bahnknotenpunkt, hat schöne, mit Magnolien bepflanzte Straßen, ein Staatshaus, einen Gerichtshof der Union sowie der Grafschaft, eine Staatsirrenanstalt, Taubstummen- und Blindeninstitut, Postamt, Handelskammer, die Little Rock-Universität und die medizinische Abteilung der Arkansas Industrial University, ein Arsenal der Union, Gießereien, Ölmühlen, bedeutenden Handel in Baumwolle, Holz, Tabak, Steinen und (1900) 38,307 Einw., darunter 14,694 Farbige, aber nur 2099 im Ausland (1028 in Deutschland) Geborne. Das steuerpflichtige Einkommen betrug 1902: 18 Mill., die städtische Schuld 108,000 Doll.
