Infánt

Infánt (span. infante; v. lat. infans, »Kind«), in Spanien und Portugal Titel der Prinzen und Prinzessinnen (infanta, Infantin) der königlichen Familie; der Kronprinz heißt in Spanien seit 1388 Prinz von Asturien, während er in Portugal bis zur Lostrennung Brasiliens den Titel Prinz von Brasilien führte. Den Titel I. führen die spanischen Prinzen fort, wenn sie auf fremde Throne gelangen. Das einem Infanten oder einer Infantin als Leibgedinge angewiesene Gebiet hieß Infantado (Infantagium); dieser Name hat sich in dem Gebiet von Infantado erhalten, das König Heinrich IV. von Kastilien an Don Diego Hurtado Mendoza verlieh, und das nachmals durch Heirat an das Haus Silva kam.
