Hank

Hank (Strähne), engl. Garnmaß, bei Wolle und Baumwolle = 7 Leas (s. Lea); die Feinheit dieser Garne wird durch die Zahl der H. bezeichnet, die zu 1 Pfd. avdp. nötig sind. Bei Flachs- und Hanfgarn enthält 1 H. in Großbritannien gewöhnlich 10, in Irland 12 Leas. Das H. mißt bei Baumwollgarn und bei Kammgarn mittlerer Weife = 768, bei sonstigem Wollgarn = 512, bei Flachs- und Hanfgarn 2743, bez. in Irland 3292 m, bei gezwirnter Seide 2496 Fäden = 3043 m.
