Andromedotoxīn (Asebotoxin) C31H50O10 scheint der wirksame Stoff aller giftigen Erikazeen zu sein. Auch der giftige Honig von Trapezunt (Xenophons Anabasis) enthielt wohl A. Es wird aus Blättern von Rhododendron ponticum dargestellt, bildet farblose Nadeln, löst sich in Wasser und Alkohol, kaum in Äther, schmilzt unter Zersetzung bei 229°, reagiert neutral, wirkt heftig brechenerregend und lähmt dann die Atmung.
