Ampthill (spr. ämmt-hill), Odo William Leopold Russell, Lord, brit. Diplomat, geb. 20. Febr. 1829, gest. 25. Aug. 1884 in Potsdam, wurde 1849 Attaché der britischen Gesandtschaft in Wien, arbeitete von 1850–52 im Auswärtigen Amt, war dann nacheinander bei den Gesandtschaften in Paris, Wien, Konstantinopel und Washington tätig und wurde 1858 zum Gesandten in Florenz ernannt, um zugleich England in offiziöser Stellung bei der päpstlichen Kurie zu vertreten. In Rom blieb er auch, nachdem er 1860 zum Gesandten in Neapel befördert worden war. 1870 wurde er Unterstaatssekretär im Auswärtigen Amt, vertrat einige Monate lang England im deutschen Hauptquartier zu Versailles, wurde 1871 zum Botschafter am Berliner Hof und 1872 zum Mitgliede des Geheimen Rates ernannt. Er vertrat England als dritter Bevollmächtigter auf dem Berliner Kongreß von 1878. Im J. 1881 wurde er zum Lord A. erhoben.
