Amarna, genauer El-Amarna, in Mittelägypten, Ruinenstätte der von Amenophis IV. gegründeten Residenz, woselbst im Winter 1887/88 von Ein gebornen gegen 300 in babylonischer Schrift und zumeist auch babylonischer Sprache geschriebene Tontafeln gefunden wurden: Briefe babylonischer, assyrischer und andrer vorderasiatischer Könige sowie palästinensischer Vasallen an den ägyptischen Hof des 15.
