Fort William, 1) ehemaliges Fort in Inverneßshire (Schottland), am Westfuß des Ben Nevis, um 1650 von General Monk als Schlüssel zu den schottischen Hochlanden gebaut, 1892 von der Westhochland-Eisenbahngesellschaft angekauft, mit (1901) 2087 Einw. 5 km nordöstlich, am Kaledonischen Kanal, der Weiler Banavie, mit Hotel. – 2) Erst neuerdings aus einem Posten der Hudsonbai-Kompanie entstandene Stadt im Distrikt Algoma der kanadischen Provinz Ontario, an der Thunderbai des Obern Sees und an der kanadischen Pacificbahn, mit großen Elevatoren, Getreide- und Erzverschiffung und (1901) 3633 Einw.
