Fitzpatrick (spr. -pättrik), William John, irischer Historiker, geb. 31. Aug. 1830, ward an dem katholischen College zu Clongowes Wood erzogen, lehnte 1869 eine Kandidatur für das Unterhaus ab und wurde 1883 Professor der Geschichte an der Royal Irish academy zu Dublin. Er schrieb: »The life, times and contemporaries of Lord Cloncurry« (1855); »Lord Edw. Fitzgerald and his betrayers« (1859); »Lady Morgan, her career, literary and personal« (1860); »The life, times and correspondence of Dr. Doyle, bishop of Kildare, etc.« (1861, 2 Bde.; 2. Aufl. 1880); »Memoirs of Richard Whately, archbishop of Dublin« (1864, 2 Bde.); »The sham squire and the informers of 1798« (1866); »Ireland before the union, with the unpublished diary of John Scott, Earl of Clonmel, 1774–1798« (1867,5. verm. Aufl. 1869); »Irish wits and worthies« (1873); »The life of Charles Lever« (1879, 2 Bde.; neue Ausg. 1896); »Life of Thomas N.
