Dyke

Dyke (spr. daik), Sir William Hart-, Baronet, engl. Staatsmann, geb. 1837, studierte in Oxford und wurde 1865 ins Unterhaus gewählt, wo er der konservativen Partei beitrat. Er war von 1874–80 Sekretär im Schatzamt unter Lord Beaconsfield und fungierte zugleich als »Einpeitscher« (whip) der konservativen Partei; 1880 wurde er zum Mitglied des Geheimen Rates ernannt. Vom Juli 1885 bis zum Januar 1886 war D. Obersekretär für Irland unter Lord Salisbury, trat aber von diesem Amte noch vor dem Sturz des konservativen Ministeriums zurück. Vom Januar 1887 bis zum August 1892 war er im zweiten Ministerium Salisbury Vizepräsident des Geheimen Rates (Unterrichtsminister).
