Drummond, Henry, theologischer und naturwissenschaftlicher Schriftsteller, geb. 1851 zu Stirling in Schottland, gest. 11. März 1897 in Tunbridge Wells, studierte in Edinburg und Tübingen Theologie und Philosophie, daneben Naturwissenschaften, wurde Hilfsgeistlicher in Edinburg und 1877 Professor der Naturwissenschaften am College der Freien Kirche in Glasgow. Im Auftrag der African Lakes Company bereiste er 1883–84 die Nyassa- und die Tanganjikaländer. 1890 hielt er Vorlesungen in Melbourne und Tokio und verband damit eine Forschungsreise nach den Neuen Hebriden. Über seine Afrikareise veröffentlichte er: »Tropical Africa« (Lond. 1888; deutsch, Gotha 1891) und »Travel sketches in our new protectorate« (1890). Von seinen theologischen Schriften, die außerordentlichen Erfolg hatten, sind die bekanntesten: »Natural law in the spiritual world« (1883, 1890; deutsch, 11. Aufl., Bielef. 1901); »The greatest thing in the world« (1889; deutsch u. d. T.: »Das Beste in der Welt«, 34. Aufl., das. 1902); »Pax vobiscum« (1891; deutsch, das. 1891) und »Ascent of man« (Lond. 1894). Nach seinem Tod erschien »The ideal life, and other unpublished addresses« (1897; deutsch, Bielef. 1899). Seine Biographie schrieb G. A. Smith (6. Aufl., Lond. 1902; deutsch, Berl. 1900).
