Demōnax

Demōnax, griech. Philosoph der kynischen Schule, aus Kypros gebürtig, lebte zu Athen im 2. Jahrh. n. Chr., starb, über 100 Jahre alt, heitern Mutes, wie er gelebt hatte, eines freiwilligen Todes, um den Schwächen des Alters zu entgehen. Er vertrat die kynischen Sätze nicht mit der sonst bei den Kynikern herrschenden Härte. Lukian hat sein Leben beschrieben und es als Muster einer Lebensphilosophie hingestellt. Vgl.
