Defilé

Defilé (franz., »Engweg«), jeder Weg, der durch Hindernisse im Gelände so beengt ist, daß er nur in verhältnismäßig schmaler Front zu marschieren gestattet. Defilés können zur Verbindung zweier Abschnitte dienen, wie z. B. Brücken und Dammwege, oder es sind Straßen, die oft meilenweit durch unzugängliches Gelände, Ortschaften, Wälder etc. fortlaufen. Führen sie in geringer Breite durch Gebirge, Täler etc., so bildet das D. einen Engpaß; die Ausgänge heißen Debouchés (s.d.). Defilés spielen eine Rolle, wenn sie im Rücken eines geworfenen Korps liegen, oder wenn der Feind ein Korps am Heraustreten aus einem D. zu hindern sucht, oder wenn er ein D. erobern will. Die hierbei entstehenden »Gefechte um Engwege« (Defilés) sind meist sehr blutig, man sucht deshalb ein D. so schnell wie möglich zu durchschreiten.
